Flower of Fury

We've all had our fair share of difficult clients. But with some blood, sweat, and *magical* tears, things always work out in the end.

Tale of Two Warriors

Thrilling clash between a swordsman and archer.

Flower of Fury

Node Fest is a yearly motion design conference held in Melbourne, Australia. Each year they run an ident competition where entries must follow the theme, be 15-30 seconds long and resolve to the Node logo.Based on the year's theme of 'Flora and Fauna', my entry won 'Best Comedy' and 'Best Ident' of Node Fest 2024.

3D Production

The characters were modelled, rigged, and animated in Cinema 4D, additional sculpting and retopology in 3D Coat. Hair groom designed with Ornatrix. Clothes designed in Marvelous Designer. Rendered using Redshift.

2D Type & FX

The kinetic typography was animated and composited in After Effects. After the 3D shots were locked, I animated the 2D FX with Rough Animator, and composited it in After effects.

Pre-production

I started with building a very rough version of the environment in 3D, blocking out objects like chairs and trees with simple cubes and cylinders. I positioned cameras around the rough set for each shot and used these frames as a reference. This allowed the storyboards to seamlessly translate into 3D, as each shot already had an intended placement and elements had continuity.

Tale of Two Warriors

This was a personal project I worked on to combine my love of action sequences, and apply my theoretical understanding of character animation, cloth simulation, and hair grooming.It was not only rewarding to design and animate it, but an invaluable learning opportunity with many lessons to bring to future animated projects. Please enjoy.

Pre-production

I initially had only planned the 3 shots that I storyboarded. Once I began animation however, I enjoyed it so much that I added additional scenes resulting in the 20 second sequence.

let slideindexX = 1; showslidesX(slideindexX); function plusslidesX(n) { showslidesX(slideindexX += n); } function currentSlide(n) { showslidesX(slideindexX = n); } function showslidesX(n) { let i; let slidesX = document.getElementsByClassName("myslidesX"); let dots = document.getElementsByClassName("dot"); if (n > slidesX.length) {slideindexX = 1} if (n < 1) {slideindexX = slidesX.length} for (i = 0; i < slidesX.length; i++) { slidesX[i].style.display = "none"; } for (i = 0; i < dots.length; i++) { dots[i].className = dots[i].className.replace(" active", ""); } slidesX[slideindexX-1].style.display = "block"; dots[slideindexX-1].className += " active"; }
